Princeton today celebrates President-elect Joe Biden’s announcement that he will nominate Cecilia Rouse, Dean of the School of Public and International Affairs, to Chair the Council of Economic Advisers. I cannot imagine a better choice for the role. Ceci Rouse is a distinguished economist and an outstanding dean for the School. For more than eight years, she has led the School of Public and International Affairs with integrity and a steadfast commitment to scholarly excellence, diversity, and the free exchange of ideas. The School is stronger and better because of her contributions.
Like many others, I will miss having Ceci at Princeton. I have relied on her good judgment, sound counsel, and stalwart citizenship. We appointed her as dean, however, partly because of her experience in Washington and her devotion to public service. We always knew that she might return there. I am proud that she has once again been called to serve our country, this time in one of its most important leadership roles. I join Tigers the world over in wishing her well as she helps America to address economic challenges and achieve a more just society.
