The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.
Washington, DC 20500
Dear Mr. President:
As you know, Mr. Xiyue Wang, a Princeton University graduate student, has been falsely charged with espionage in Iran and unjustly imprisoned for more than a year. I am grateful to you and your administration for the strong statements that you have made on his behalf and for your efforts to secure his safe return to the United States.
Mr. Wang is in ill health and suffering from the difficult and dangerous conditions of his confinement. He is a legitimate scholar who was unjustly jailed while pursuing historical research focused on the late 19th and early 20th century. He has no connection to any government or intelligence agency. He is also a father and a husband to a family who miss him dearly.
I know that many people in the government have worked diligently and compassionately on our student’s behalf. I write now only to ask that you take any feasible additional steps to secure Mr. Wang’s release and bring this American citizen home safely to the family and the country that he loves.
Respectfully,
Christopher L. Eisgruber
